(Boise, ID) – Long-time Idaho Steelhead forward Marty Flichel has agreed to terms for the 2009-2010 season. It’ll be Flichel’s seventh season with Idaho.
The 33-year-old will wear multiple hats for the Steelheads, serving as the team’s captain on the ice as well as assistant coach during the coming season.
“Marty is my captain,” Idaho head coach Derek Laxdal said. “And he’s agreed to take on additional duties as an assistant, giving him a little more responsibility in terms of leadership and player development, which is very important to our organization.”
Flichel takes the place of Cal Ingraham, who served as assistant coach the past two seasons. Ingraham is now working with youth hockey teams in the Boise area.
He’ll still lace up the skates for the Steelheads as well, coming off a season where he scored 52 points (17 goals, 35 assists) in 60 games. Since moving to the ECHL for the 2003-2004 season, Flichel is the franchise’s all-time leader in goals (108), assists (181), and points (289). He played one season with Idaho when the franchise was still in the now-defunct WCHL.
“Marty is in a position where he can really impact this team whether he’s in uniform or not,” Laxdal continued. “And we’re very excited about that.”
Season-ticket packages for the 2009-2010 season are available now, starting as low as $450 per seat for all 36 home games. Partial-season ticket packages are available for as little as $150.
